Restaurant Gift Cards

I would be remiss not to tell you about cheap Restaurant Gift Cards, discounted Gift Cards and Gift Card deals in the Restaurant Industry. Most restaurants offer you an additional 20% in Bonus Gift Cards with these specials and these are the best times to buy them. I love to stock up on these Gift Cards when they’re available, not only for gift giving, but also for my own use, because when used in conjunction with coupons, they make for a doubly great deal! Ca-ching! Ca-ching!

These Restaurant Gift Card Specials spring up through-out the year, and usually only last for 2 to 4 weeks. You will find the most Gift Card Deals in the months of October through December as Restaurants are hoping that you will purchase Gift Cards for Holiday Gift Giving. During those months, the majority of major Restaurant Chains will offer this kind of Gift Card Deal. The other time of year that many restaurants offer these deals are starting in April for upcoming Graduation, Mother's Day and Father's Day celebrations and gift giving.

Here's how it works:

A restaurant will offer a deal structured something like this: Purchase $50 in Gift Cards and receive a $10 Bonus Card! Now, this by itself is a GREAT deal! And, you can purchase multiples. For instance, you can purchase, $100 in Gift Cards and receive two $20 Bonus Cards. I tell you below how to make it an even better deal! Plus, you can get the Gift Cards in any denomination you want (i.e., two $25 Gift Cards to equal the $50).

Here's how to make it a better deal: Regular Restaurant Gift Cards (since they are considered the same as cash) can be used in conjunction with a Restaurant's discount coupon. So, let's say you have a $5.00 off coupon (good with the purchase of 2 adult entrees) for a restaurant. You can use it along with your pre-paid $25 Gift Card, then you have essentially saved yourself another 20%. Note: Most "Bonus Gift Cards" cannot, however, be combined with a Restaurant's discount coupon, because these are considered "like" or "the same as" coupons.

Additional tip: Some Restaurants offer "double" Rewards or Bonus Gift Cards if you purchase on Black Friday. Some of the Restaurants that I know of that offered this type of deal in 2012 were Black Angus and California Pizza Kitchen.

The Bonus Cards usually expire after a short period of time (within 1 to 3 months), so be certain to use those first, but most regular Restaurant Gift Cards never expire. Please be certain to read each Restaurant's terms and policies carefully prior to purchasing. Some cards are available for purchase online only, some are available in-store only, and some are available online and in-store.

THE MOTHER OF ALL TIPS:  
Here's something that you should ALWAYS do - make this a habit! Since you don't always know when a Restaurant is offering a Gift Card Special, whenever you plan to dine at a Restaurant, or get curbside or carryout at a Restaurant -- before you even order your meal, ask the waiter/waitress, "Are you currently offering any Gift Card Specials?" If he/she says "yes," then get the details on the offer, pay for your gift cards FIRST, then pay for your meal WITH the Gift Card. Then you'll have your Free Bonus Card(s) that you received along with your Gift Card(s) to use later. I've been doing this for years.

Another great way to save with Gift Certificates is through Restaurant.com. They offer $20 to $25 Restaurant Gift Certificates for $4 to $10, depending on what time of month you purchase. I've used them myself. They have a few of the larger chain restaurants and plenty of neighborhood restaurants to select from. You should check them out as well!
