You can save 70% to 100% on a Home Appliance Warranty, Electronics Warranty and other Extended Warranties if you know either where to obtain the warranty or what to use when shopping for the product in the first place!
Some people say that Extended Warranties should be avoided at any cost, and I would agree with them on most smaller purchases, but not on all larger purchases. For the most part, electronics are well-made these days and consumers would rather replace than repair them. But when the item costs you a substantial amount of money, say over $500, you feel a little uneasy when you don’t purchase that additional coverage. And trust me, after working for a company (that shall remain nameless), and personally hearing the customer complaints, I will never purchase a new large-screen television without extended coverage! There was one particular major brand of television that had almost 50% of the repair calls. I would name it here, but I don't want to be sued :-). Especially when most manufacturers’ warranties only cover your product for a period of 3 to 12 months. The older televisions (and I still have many) will/would last 15 years without incident, but these newer ones can easily fail in some way within the first year! I thought technology was supposed to be getting better, not worse!
Before ever purchasing any Electronic or Appliance there is one thing that you should do! Take out all of your (non-store) credit cards, like Visa, MC, Amex, etc. and call the Customer Service number. As a matter of fact, you can do this right now. Many of the better credit cards, if you use their card to purchase the Electronic or Appliance, will actually DOUBLE the manufacturer's warranty! That's right. I bet you didn't know this. Most people don't. And most people pay for this lack of knowledge, and they purchase the expensive extended warranties right in the store. A huge profit for the store and a stupid move for the consumer!! So, if the Manufacturer's Warranty is 1-year, your credit card might extend the coverage to 2 years! It's worth a phone call to find out. If it's a small appliance or electronic and the coverage is 90 days, then it will extend to 180 days, just by paying with the right card.
If your credit card does not cover you, then your next best bet would probably be SquareTrade.com. At SquareTrade.com, you can make your purchase in a store or online, then go to their website and purchase your protection. You'll receive equivalent protection for substantially less (up to 70% less). You can still purchase your electronics and appliances (computer, television, refrigerator, etc.) from any retailer, store or online merchant (even eBay), then purchase your warranty from them. They even offer coverage for new, refurbished and used items.
Also, although SquareTrade’s prices are already low, they’re constantly offering 10% to 30% off coupon codes. Once you purchase one warranty through them, they’ll periodically send you coupon codes via email or mail, or you can do an online search under “SquareTrade coupon code” and find a coupon code to enter to save even more money prior to purchasing a warranty through them!
Lastly, and many of us fail to do this with your home appliance warranty, electronics warranties and other extended warranties – read the terms and conditions of the warranty prior to calling in a claim! This is very important. They can deny your claim because you said the wrong thing. You’ll kick yourself for not having read the fine print first.
