Basic Talk

Walmart and Walmart.com or BasicTalk.com offer Basic Talk Home Phone Device for less than $10, and $9.99 per month for the service. You can calculate the approximate cost w/tax by plugging in your zip code at BasicTalk.com.There's no annual contract and no cost to keep your number.  There's no software to install on a computer.  It does not work with a fax machine.  Basic Talk device and service work with a phone line.  It features:

International calling is not an option.  If you need International calling, consider Straight Talk (below). If you have an Alarm System that is connected to your home phone, you should check with the Manufacturer and/or your Monitoring Company to make certain that it will work with them prior to purchase.

Straight Talk

Straight Talk has one of the cheapest home phone services at only $15 per month that includes unlimited Nationwide local and long distance calling; caller ID, call waiting, 3-way calling and call forwarding; no contract; voicemail; E911 and 411; and you can port your existing phone number to them for free.  If you want unlimited International Calling, it will cost you $30 per month.  Most people don't require International service, so the $15/month is a great rate!

Best of all, Straight Talk does not require any internet service or landline service to operate. You will need to purchase their device for @$99.99- either direct from StraightTalk.com or at Walmart or Walmart.com. You can plug corded phones directly into the device, but this would limit your range as far as where you could have the phones in your home.  The best option if you want multiple phones is to use cordless phones with one base unit.The base unit plugs into the Straight Talk device, and all other cordless phones and their bases can be placed anywhere in the home.
